It is now more or less certain that former MP and actress M Vijayashanti is going to call it quits to the Bharatiya Janata Party and join the Congress in a day or two.
Despite being the special invitee for the BJP national executive council, Vijayashanti has been keeping away from the BJP activities for quite some time. She has not even been considered as the party candidate in the assembly elections, nor was given any assurance for the Lok Sabha elections.
What is worse, she has been taken off from the list of BJP’s star campaigners for the Telangana assembly elections and has not been invited to address any public meetings of the party in the elections.
Peeved at being neglected by the party national leadership, Vijayashanti confined herself to posting interesting tweets on X, indicating that she has been in two minds about her future course of action.
“Some people say I had carried the Congress flag for seven years when the party was in the opposition. Others say, I have to stand by the BJP after having supported it ideologically since 1998 and worked for the party in several states for the last one decade,” she said.
Vijayashanti went on to add that she cannot play a dual role in politics unlike what she had done in some films, if she wanted to achieve her objective of getting rid of KCR’s draconian rule in Telangana. “I can work only for one party,” she said.
On Saturday, Telangana PCC Vice President Mallu Ravi announced that Vijayashanti is set to join the Congress party in a couple of days. He indicated that she had got clearance from the party high command to that effect.
The development comes in the context of other leaders like Komati Reddy Rajagopal Reddy, and Enugu Ravinder Reddy recently joining the Congress from the BJP.
