Hitherto, people have seen MLAs, particularly from the Opposition benches, stormed the Speaker’s podium in the Assembly, squatted there and even uprooted his mike to register their protest on a particular issue.
But, on Monday, the Assembly witnessed a strange scene. For the first time in the history of the State Legislative Assembly, ministers stormed the podium and raised slogans against their own Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.
The ministers, hailing from Telangana region, along with their party MLAs , laid siege to the Speaker’s podium, demanding dismissal of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s notice for a resolution to send back the draft Telangana Bill under Rule 77.
The ministers and MLAs raised full-throated slogans of “CM down down” and the Seemandhra MLAs raised counter slogans, forcing Speaker Nadendla Manohar repeatedly adjourned the House.
Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha openly led the revolt against the Chief Minister and his Seemandhra protagonists.
He prompted the Telangana Congress members, including ministers to storm into the podium and join the protest.
Interstingly, the ministers from Telangana who stormed podium included women members – D K Aruna, Dr J Geetha Reddy and Sunitha Laxma Reddy. Even Chief Whip Gandra Venkataramana Reddy rushed into the well of the House and raised slogans.
