The people of Andhra Pradesh are utterly disgusted at Venkayya Naidu stating that AP will not get a 'special status' saying that it needs the approval of the Chief Ministers of other States too.
Criticized by everyone in the State barring the TDP for this U-turn, Venkayya Naidu is now singing a different tune. He says that the proposal to give ‘special status’ to AP has not been shelved and is very much in the pipeline.
“I have been misquoted in a section of the media. We need to convince all Chief Ministers to convene a special meeting of the National Development Council to get it approved. The Centre cannot grant special status just like that using its executive powers. It will take some time,” said Venkayya Naidu.
If that is so, Mr. Venkayya, then why did the Finance Minister of AP sign on the file agreeing to a special incentives package in place of the special status package? And who were the Chief Ministers consulted and approval taken of when Uttaranchal was given the special status by the BJP in 2001?
This was a promise made to AP by Venkayya on behalf of the BJP, in an official capacity and they even took credit for it! They need to deliver on this very important promise instead of saying that the proposal is in the pipeline or gutter line.
How shamelessly, Venkayya is again saying that the ‘special status’ is still possible. He should change his name to Unkayya Naidu, the U for his appalling U-turn!
