It is more or less certain that Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan, who resigned from the primary membership of Telugu Desam Party and also his assembly membership, is going to join the YSR Congress party.
Though TDP president and former chief minister N Chandrabau Naidu had deputed senior TDP leaders – Vijayawada MP Kesineni Nani and former MP Konakalla Narayana Rao to convince Vamsi to stay back in the party, the latter explained all his difficulties inside and outside the party.
He clearly told them that he had already taken a decision to quit the TDP and he would stand by the decision. Many of his followers also resigned from the party.
But the entry of Vamsi into the YSRC and gain a position in the party is not so easy. First of all, his arch rival in Gannavaram Yarlagadda Venkat Rao is strongly resisting Vamsi’s entry into the YSRC.
However, YSRC president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy told Venkat Rao that Vamsi would not come in his way.
Jagan assured to take care of Vamsi’s interests, though he might not give him the party ticket to contest again from Gannavaram in the by-elections.
At the same time, the YSRC chief put a strange condition to Vamsi if he wanted a good position in the party and also a possible MLC seat.
“After your resignation, the party ticket will be given to Venkat Rao in the coming by-election to Gannavaram seat. And you should work for the victory of Venkat Rao. If under any circumstances, you stay away from the campaign or Venkat Rao loses the elections, you will not get any post or position in the party,” Jagan told Vamsi.
Now, Vamsi is said to be in a dilemma because Venkat Rao is his arch rival. If Venkat Rao loses the elections in any situation, it will be big trouble for Vamsi. He will be neither here nor there.
Interestingly, similar condition was imposed for senior TDP leader and Visakhapatnam North MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao who is also sending feelers to Jagan for joining the YSRC.
The chief minister reportedly told him that if he wanted a post in the YSRC, he should ensure the victory of YSRC candidate in the by-elections in Visakhapatnam (north), sources said.
