After a week-long hungama over denial of special category status to Andhra Pradesh by the Centre, almost all political parties, barring YSR Congress party, and organisations seem to have gone silent over the issue.
The Congress party has gone back into the shell, as it feared the BJP started making counter-attack as to why it had not included the special category status in the AP Reorganisation Act. Moreover, the party does not have much stakes in the 2019 elections as well. So, the party leaders might have thought why waste money on agitations.
The Left parties, as usual, make a lot of noise only when other parties take up the cause, but when all the others go silent, they bring down their flags and look for some other issue.
Jana Sena party headed by Pavan Kalyan tried to capitalise on the issue for some time, but as expected, the power star lacked power to continue struggle. He is now finding excuses to withdraw his rallies and meetings.
The YSR Congress party is the only party which is still fighting on the issue, but it also appears to be losing steam. Reason: there is not the expected response from the people to agitations and bandhs. The people, too, have no patience to wage a continuous war, though they are agitated against the denial of special status.
Taking advantage of the situation, the TDP and the BJP have started a silent campaign among the people to brainwash them as to how the special package is better than special status.
A hectic campaign is said to be on through social media to highlight the package and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is trying to create an impression that there is a flurry of development activity after the announcement of package.
Analysts say the people might be silent for now, but if they feel the difference, they will show their power in the next elections.
