TRS Rules Out Merger With Congress

In a big blow to the Congress, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Friday ruled out its merger with the ruling party.

The TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao made this clear during a meeting of his party’s executive committee.

KCR told his party colleagues that there would no question of the party merging with the Congress.

“The TRS is going to play a major role in the reconstruction of Telangana after the state is formed. It is our historic responsibility to play our part in rebuilding the region and make it prosperous,” the Pink Panther asserted at the meeting.

He also said that the people of Telangna region were looking up to the TRS to provide leadership in the state and take part in its all round development.

KCR’s assertion has poured cold water on the Congress’ plans to sweep the coming elections in Telangana after ensuring the merger of TRS with the ruling party.

Having granted statehood for Telangana, thus fulfilling a six decade old dream of the people of the region, the Congress is hoping to capitalize on the goodwill generated in the region and reap rich electoral harvest at the hustings.

After the Congress Working Committee announced its decision to bifurcate the state on July 30, KCR had said that his party would keep up its word of merging with the Congress if the Telangana state is formed.
