![TRS Membership Drive: Strength Or Swelling?](https://www.greatandhra.com/newphotos9/ga_politics1611037702.jpeg)
Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao has claimed that his party had set a new record by enrolling 75 lakh members, thereby becoming the biggest regional party in the country.
He went on to claim the TRS was now among top three political parties in terms of membership.
He said the party had decided to collect between Rs 25 crore Rs 30 crore through membership drive. So far, nearly Rs 13.50 crore had been raised, he said.
Well, it is really a major achievement if what KCR said is correct. But the question is whether this 75 lakh membership figure is just a swelling or real strength of the party. If it is true, the TRS should not lose even a single assembly seat in Telangana.
It is not difficult for each member to mobilise at least four votes (his or her own family members are enough). That would fetch 3 crore votes for the TRS, which is almost equivalent to the number of voters in Telangana.
It means, the opposition parties, including the Congress, the BJP, the TDP and even the MIM, should not get even a single vote in the next elections!
In Andhra Pradesh, too, the ruling Telugu Desam Party has made similar tall claims. It has included all and sundry as the TDP members during the membership drive based on the voters’ list. As a result, even the opposition party leaders were also enrolled as TDP members!
