The 'Revanth Reddy' cash-for-vote scandal couldn't have come at a more inopportune time for the TDP. It has resulted in ammunition to the TRS and YSRCP in Telangana and AP and what’s more, it could have consequences more far reaching than mere allegations for Chandrababu.
Both the TRS and TDP have completed one year in governance.
While the Telangana formation day celebrations are going on in Telangana, Naidu is undertaking the Navanirman Deeksha in AP.
The TDP which was intending to focus on the farmers’ suicides and students’ unrest suddenly finds itself branded as a corrupt Party along with the Andhra -tag already attached to it. It finds itself deprived of moral authority to speak out against the TRS.
Similarly in AP, whenever Jagan Mohan Reddy spoke out against the government, the stock reply of the TDP was that Jagan had no moral right to speak as he had the ‘disproportionate assets’ cases pending against him.
Now, the TDP can no longer take succor behind that stance. But the most important result can be in terms of land acquisition for the new capital and other projects in AP.
With Naidu’s credibility taking a nose dive, it is not going to be easy now for the government to convince the farmers to part with their lands on the assurance that the government will do them justice.
Farmers and other sections of society will now understandably be doubly concerned about the assurances made to them by Naidu.
