One lakh crore… There was a time when the number was everywhere in united Andhra Pradesh. In fact, the political circles spoke of nothing but the number for a very long, long time.
In fact, the number became popular when TDP and other political parties launched a tirade against YS Jagan during the misappropriation of assets case.
Now if we cut to the present situation, both the states are in need of one lakh crores to bail the governments out of trouble.
Of course, no one is going to give that huge amount without any strings attached. So, the governments have to squeeze the money out of people now.
Starting from waiver of loans, pension schemes… both the governments made reckless promises without thinking twice with the sole objective of coming into power. And now that they are in power, they have to fulfill at least some or all their promises.
And for that, money has to be retrieved from people in the form of taxes irrespective of whether the Central government gives money or if they manage to garner funds through other means.
For Andhra Pradesh government, developing a new capital city is a huge challenge. An estimated Rs 5 lakh crores is required to develop the city. And a similar amount is required for other expenses.
The situation is no different in Telangana, though it does not have to worry about a capital city. Right from hi-tech policing, KG to page free education scheme, pensions, waiver of loans, new projects… to realize their dream projects, they need a lot of money running to crores.
Now, let’s come to the tailpiece. Though both the governments are vying with each other to talk of holistic, hi-tech development, no project has been kick-started in reality.
It’s been a month since they have come to power, yet they are far away from realizing their promises.
