Expressing serious discontent on passing of AP Reorganization (Amendment) Bill (Polavaram Ordinance) related to transfer of seven Tribal mandals, the Telangana Joint Action Committee on Friday called for Telangana bandh on Saturday.
TJAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram alleged that the Centre had acted against the Federal spirit by passing the bill.
“We shall continue our fight to protect the interests of tribals who get affected by Polavaram project,” he said.
The CPI-M, CPI, CPI-ML and even the Congress extended support to the Telangana bandh. Congress leader Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy also called for a protest dharna in Delhi on July 14 against the unilateral decision taken by the Centre.
“The Centre is acting at the behest of conspiracies of Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Leader of the Opposition YS Jaganmohan Reddy,” Sudhakar Reddy said.
