Telangana On A Fast-Track

In yet another indication that the UPA government has put the bifurcation process on afast-track, the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Monday said that the Telanana bill would come up before the Parliament much before the schedule and the newU state of Telangana would be formed during the current term of the UPA.

Shinde made it clear that all issues arising out of the division of Andhra Pradesh including the status of Hyderabad during the ten year period when it will be common capital for Telangana and residuary Andhra Pradesh, sharing of river waters, revenues, power, security for the people of Seemandhra settled in Telangana, access to educational and employment opportunities, would be sorted out before the bifurcation.

The seven-member Group of Ministers (GoM) is looking into all these aspect and thoroughly examining various suggestions received in this regard, he said. 

The minister also confirmed the all-party meeting to be held in Delhi on November 12 and 13. 

The meeting would discuss all the issues relating to the division of the state. 

According to party sources, the Congress central leaders are keen to give Telangana bill as a birthday gift to the party president Sonia Gandhi on December 9. 

Before that, efforts are on to complete the process of preparing the draft bill, sending it to the state Assembly through President Pranab Mukherjee. 

After presidential assent, the union cabinet will clear the bill for introduction in the Parliament.
