Telangana Bill Has Lots Of Lacunae!

Deputy Floor leader of Telugu Desam Party Ashok Gajapathi Raju on Tuesday felt that there were many grey areas in the Telangana Bill that need to be addressed and clarified.

Raju, while agreeing that a discussion on the Bill was imperative, also expressed the need for arriving at a consensus over the debate.

He also said that the Telangana Bill tabled in the Assembly lacked clarity on many issues like the sharing of river waters. Without resolving such issues, proceeding ahead with bifurcation of the state would only lead to bigger crisis, he observed.

Lok Satta president and legislator Jayaprakash Narayan also opined that the Telangana Bill tabled in the Assembly was an incomplete one, and it lacked clarity on many issues and without resolving these, there was no point in debating it in the House.

He pointed out that there was no mention in the Bill about the financial assistance and allocations the Centre would provide to the two states, and also no details were provided about region-wise strength of the government staff. Asking to debate the Bill without clarifications on these issues would be unconstitutional, he observed. Whatever might be the political outcome and changes that might unfold, the Telugu-speaking people should remain united forever, he added.
