With Meda Mallikarjun Reddy, sitting Telugu Desam Party MLA from Rajampet in Kadapa district, quitting the party and joining the YSR Congress party, there is an intense competition for the TDP ticket from the constituency.
On Saturday, Telugu Association of North America (TANA) president Vemana Satish threw his hat into the ring.
He met TDP president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu at Vundavalli and requested that he be given an opportunity to contest the forthcoming assembly elections from Rajampet.
He explained to Naidu that he had been working sincerely for the party in Rajampet for the last 25 years, even while he was continuing as TANA president.
He claimed that he had also mobilised massive support to the TDP in America.
“If given an opportunity, I will win with massive majority and gift the seat to the party,” he said.
However, Naidu did not give him any commitment on the seat but agreed to consider his candidature. He asked Satish to work hard for the success of TDP again in the constituency.
