Guntur: Even as farmers in some village in Tulluru mandal have expressed their readiness to hand over their fertile land for capital city construction, their counterparts in Tadepalli mandal, however, threatened to “stone if chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu dared visit their villages” seeking land for capital city.
The farmers of Penumaka, Tadepalle and Venkatapalem villages gathered at Tadepalle on Tuesday and expressed their resolve not to part with even a cent of their land. The farmers warned of serious consequences if anyone visited their area seeking land. Penumaka sarpancha Meka Siva Reddy presided over the meeting where farmers pledged to take on the government if it tried to take their land. “We would rather die than give our land,” said Sambi Reddy, a farmer.
He wondered why the government wants to destroy fertile land to build a capital city. The farmers found fault with the government’s decision to pool land for capital city without making use of the available government land.
Earlier, local MLA Sravan Kumar and Guntur MLA Modugula Venugopal Reddy too faced stiff resistance from farmers of river bank villages, Abbarajupalem and Borupalem, when they had gone to elicit the views of the farmers on land pooling proposal.
