T-Govt Gets 3 Years To Repay Crop Loans

Telangana government has got three years’ time to repay the crop loans taken by farmers, if it has to implement the loan waiver scheme.

A letter to this effect was received by the Telangana government from the Reserve Bank of India on Wednesday. The RBI gave its consent on rescheduling of crop loans of Telangana farmers for about three years.

In the letter, the RBI sought to know whether the government could repay the amount after three years. It also sought complete details pertaining to farmers to be covered and quantum of amount and period from when it wants to implement.

The officials are involved in collecting the details from SLBC to send the same along with its proposals to the Apex Bank, sources said.

With this, it is clear that the TRS Government can only reschedule the crop loans as promised in its manifesto, but it is likely that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao will make an announcement on waiver of crop loans.
