Believe it or not, the Telangana Congress legislators are scared of accepting the post of chairman of Public Accounts Committee in the Assembly.
Reason: it has turned out to be a jinxed post, especially after the formation of Telangana State. Normally, the PAC chairman post is given to a senior legislator from the main Opposition party.
It is considered to be a very crucial post with Cabinet minister rank having all the facilities. There used to be a lot of demand for the post in the past, as it has a lot of scope for making big money.
The PAC chairman would scrutinize the accounts of various government departments and unearths major irregularities. On many occasions, the officials manage the PAC chairman by offering him big money so that the accounting frauds would not come out.
But now, the post seems to be very scary for the Congress MLAs, because those who held these posts disappeared into oblivion. In the last two years, there were two PAC chairpersons appointed by the Congress.
First was P Kishta Reddy from Narayankhed, who died of heart attack suddenly. In his place, another senior MLA Ramreddy Venkat Reddy was appointed and he, too, kicked the bucket recently.
Now, the party is planning to appoint another senior MLA J Geetha Reddy for the post, but she is said to be reluctant to accept the post because of the jinx attacked to it.
In the past, too, several MLAs held the post but they subsequently failed to make big in politics. The classic examples are: Nagam Janardhan Reddy and Revuri Prakash Reddy, both of whom are facing a very bleak future now!
