It looks like the passage of the much-awaited Telangana might encounter rough weather when introduced in Parliament during the ensuing session commencing from February 5.
It was evident from the way majority of the opposition parties who attended the all-party meeting convened by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamalnath in New Delhi on Monday, opposed the introduction of the Telangana bill in the House. There were heated arguments during the all-party meeting.
During the course of discussions, most of the parties are understood to have impressed upon the need for the session to concentrate more on the vote on account budget and ensure its passage.
The Trinamul Congress especially seems to have persisted the session to devote its time more on the vote on account.
Sources said when the issue of presenting the A. P. Reorganization Bill 2013 came up for discussion, heated arguments triggered off over the veracity of the Union government’s hurried move to introduce the bill.
The Samajwadi Party reminded the Parliamentary Affairs Minister that the Telangana was a very sensitive and delicate issue and needs to be tackled very diligently.
“Why is the Congress in such a hurry to introduce the Bill,” the party wanted to know.
Many other parties seem to have also opined that the Telangana Bill should be comprehensively prepared after taking all precautionary measures to prevent any legal hurdles in the future and then only introduced in Parliament.
As a matter of fact, most of the regional parties were understood to have not very keen on the introduction of the Telangana Bill at this stage.
Informed sources also disclosed that the BJP was very vociferous in this regard and wanted the government to make doubly sure that the concerns and apprehensions of the people of all the regions are fully addressed and incorporated in the bill before being introduced in Parliament.
