There appears to be more to Bharatiya Janata Party MP Subramanian Swamy’s unusual display of love and affection towards Andhra Pradesh CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and his outburst against TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu.
Swamy flew down from New Delhi to Tirupati in a special flight to have a darshan of Lord Venkateshwara and from there, he came to Vijayawada in the same special flight along with Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams chairman Y V Subba Reddy to meet the chief minister.
He had a luncheon meeting with Jagan, before going to the state high court to file a Rs 100 crore defamation case against Andhra Jyothy Telugu daily which he said has the backing of Chandrababu Naidu.
After going hammer and tongs at Naidu, he was flown to Hyderabad in the special flight from where he returned to Delhi by night.
His critics say the entire trip of Subramanian Swamy was sponsored by the YSRC, which has obviously a plan to settle scores with the TDP chief. That is all part of state politics.
But why did Swamy file the case against the daily on behalf of the TTD, though he initially gave the impression that it was his personal case as a Balaji Bhakt.
Sources say Swamy, who could be completing his Rajya Sabha term by next year, is not confident of getting renomination from the BJP.
In fact, he joined the BJP only in 2013, but later he has become a strong critic of Narendra Modi’s policies.
So, he might be lobbying with Jagan to get the Rajya Sabha nomination from Andhra Pradesh in 2022, when six more seats fall vacant.
“That is the reason why he showered praises on Jagan and attacked the TDP chief with harsh words,” an analyst from New Delhi said.
