Stung by the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s repeated acts of rebellion and the growing support for him from the party leaders in Seemandhra, the Congress high command is believed to have sought a report from intelligence agencies about the political impact that the Chief Minister has been able to make.
The Delhi bosses are worried that if any attempt is made to replace him with a loyal nominee or impose President’s rule at this stage could boomerang on the party. As per the information reaching the party high command, there is a growing support for Kiran in his fight to keep the state united.
The Union Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi, Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, Anantapur strongman J C Diwakar Reddy and Minister Pitani Satyanarayana have come out strongly in support of the chief minister.
Though the party central leadership feels that Kiran has clearly crossed the “Lakshman Rekha” as far as discipline is concerned, it wants to tread cautiously at this juncture because it is keen on completing the process of state’s bifurcation smoothly. And, later think of change of guard.
To ascertain the exact situation on the ground, the party leadership has sought inputs from the intelligence agencies basically focusing on how many Congress legislators and MPs will go with Kiran if he leaves the party or if he is shown the door.
