Senior Congress leader and former minister Danam Nagender, who has been in a state of confusion over continuing in the party for the last few months, finally came out of his confusion and resigned from the party.
He sent his resignation letters to AICC president Rahul Gandhi and Telangna Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt N Uttam Kumar Reddy, stating that the party was neglecting the Backward Classes, which had been the backbone of the party all these years.
“The party has also alienated the SCs, STs and minorities. The leadership has lost contact with the grassroots level cadre, which is thoroughly disgruntled with the party,” he alleged.
He has called for a press conference on Saturday to announce his future course of action.
Indications are that he might join the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi very shortly. He is learnt to have been offered party ticket for Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency.
Nagender has been keeping away from Congress party activities for quite some time. He has stopped coming to Gandhi Bhavan long ago.
Ever since he was stripped of his Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee president post during the recent reshuffle, he has been sulking. However, he did not give any hint that he would be quitting the Congress.
As per the latest reports, PCC chief Uttam and others have gone to Danam’s house to pacify him and prevail upon him to withdraw his resignation plans. But it is unlikely that Danam will change his mind.
