If the reports coming from the YSR Congress party sources are to be believed, Y S Vijayalakshmi, widow of former chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, is likely to step down as the honorary president of YSR Congress party headed by her son and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
According to these reports, Vijayalakshmi conveyed this to Jagan during her meeting with him in Tadepalli last week.
This would practically mean she would be disassociating herself with the YSRCP, though she has not been taking active part in the party since Jagan came to power in AP in May 2019.
Vijayalakshmi reportedly told him that it would not be appropriate for her to be associated with the YSRCP, after she had extended open support to her daughter Y S Sharmila in launching YSR Telangana Party, a new regional party in Telangana.
She, however, reportedly told Jagan that her blessings would always be with him and that as a mother, she would continue to support him. However, Sharmila needs her moral support at this stage when her party has to take off in Telangana.
Obviously, Jagan won’t be part of Vijayamma’s proposed YSR Atmeeya Sabha being held at HICC Convention Centre in Hyderabad on Thursday evening.
Though it is considered to be just a commemoration meeting, sources said it is essentially aimed at mustering support to Sharmila and give it a new direction.
Analysts wonder the absence of Jagan at the YSR commemoration meeting to be held by his own mother will send wrong signals to the party cadre.
