Speaker Under Tremendous Pressure

Even as the special session of the Assembly to debate the Telangana bill comes to a close on Thursday, Speaker Nadendla Manohar appears to be under immense pressure from both Seemandhra and Telangana members.

It was evident from the way the Speaker could not run the House even for a few minutes in the last four days, thanks to storming of the House by members of both the regions.

Telugu Desam Telangana Forum convener Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Wednesday made it clear that the legislators from the Telangana region would not allow the House to function till the Speaker reject the notice served to him under Rule 77 by the Chief Minister and others.

He said that the House was already divided on regional lines and therefore, the Telangana Bill should be sent to the Centre as per the set deadline.

He said that the Speaker was under pressure from Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and others.

He said that the Speaker should perform his duties in a free and fair manner without succumbing to any pressure. Failure to do so would amount to disrespect to the post that he is holding, he said.
