Sonia Wanted Polavaram Project!

Sonia Wanted Polavaram Project!

Union Minister for Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs M. Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday asserted there was no violation of norms or procedures while passing the Polavaram Bill in the Lok Sabha.

Speaking to media, Venkaiah pointed out that recently Congress president Sonia Gandhi had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to initiate steps to start Polavaram project at the earliest.

The Union minister said the decision on Polavaram project was taken before bifurcation of the State. Polavaram problems are not to affect the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments as the Centre would help villagers of submersible villages and “we all should come together to help the girijans”, he added.

Venkaiah said it would have been better had the Lok Sabha discussed the Polavaram project issue in depth. But the attitude of some MPs in the Lok Sabha was unfortunate, he added.

He further stated that there was no need to politicize the issue and it was ridiculous that Congress MPs have protested in spite of the fact that the decision on Polavaram project was taken by their government earlier.
