UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi has virtually turned emotional and her voice was choked when she got up to address the people at her Medchal rally on Friday.
She sought to strike an emotional chord with the people saying she felt like a mother who was seeing her children after several years.
“When I came here today, I felt like a mother seeing her children after a long time,” she said, amidst loud cheers.
She said every mother wanted her children to be healthy and grow prosperous.
“But I see my children are not healthy and their growth is stunted. The man who was supposed to take care of them has neglected them,” she said, as leaders shouted Sonia Amma.
Sonia said granting Telangana was no easy decision. She had to face a lot of difficulties, as she had to satisfy people from both Andhra and Telangana.
“I really wanted both the new born states develop at a rapid pace. We took the decision keeping in view of the aspirations of the people of Telangana. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Rahul gave me a lot of strength to take the decision,” she said.
She reminded that the Congress had paid a heavy price for forming Telangana, as she faced the anger of people of AP.
“I want to assure the people of AP that when we come to power at the centre, we will accord Special Category Status to AP,” Sonia said.
She lashed out at the TRS government for failing to live up to the expectations of the people.
“Today, I am very much pained to see Telangana. All your dreams to have your own water, funds and employment were shattered. Don’t believe those who fail to keep their word,” she said.
Stating that the present elections are an opportunity to overcome all the problems, Sonia asked the voters to elect the alliance here in Telangana.
She released party manifesto and said that details of programmes for all the sections of the society were incorporated in it.
