Though the UPA government has commenced the constitutional process for formation of separate Telangana state, there are still doubts in the minds of the people of Telangana whether the statehood dream will eventually become a reality.
To allay these apprehensions and send across a clear and unambiguous message that the Telangana state is imminent, the Congress leadership is planning to get the party president Sonia Gandhi to address a public meeting in the region.
Sonia’s presence will certainly confirm that the Telangana state will become a reality in a matter of few weeks or months.
Though President Pranab Mukherjee has sent the draft AP Reorganisation Bill, 2013 to the Assembly for its opinion, there is a section among the Telangana protagonists who still entertain doubts over formation of the state.
They fear that the last-minute technical, constitutional or legal hurdles might be created by the Seemandhra lobby to stall the bifurcation process.
There is also a growing feeling that the Congress has lost the edge in Telangana despite granting the statehood and it is Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) which is claiming the credit for realizing the statehood goal.
In order to set the record straight, the Telangana Congress leaders are trying to convince Sonia Gandhi to attend a public meeting, preferably in Hyderabad sometime in February. There are plans to hold the meeting at the Nizam College Grounds in the city.
