Daggubati Purandareswari was a strong leader when she was with the Congress. However, after walking out of the party, she lost her standing and had to face defeat during the recently held general elections.
According to TDP insiders, one of the main reasons for her failure was her refusing to spend money during elections.
Despite being a union minister for 7 years, she is said to have spent only Rs 20 lakhs. Due to this, they could not mobilize cadre for her, say TDP members.
On the other hand, being a shrewd politician, Purandareswari was hoping to get funds from BJP through Venkaiah Naidu. However, Venkaiah remained silent on the issue and did not release funds.
Being a seasoned politician, Purandareswari should be aware that one has to spend money for one’s self while in politics.
