YSR Telangana party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's daughter Y S Sharmila is likely to join the Congress party on September 17, reports from New Delhi indicated.
Sharmila, , the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, is likely to attend the massive public meeting to be conducted by the Congress in Hyderabad on September 17, which will be addressed by former Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi.
Sharmila, who had met Sonia and Rahul in New Delhi last week, reportedly struck the deal with the top leadership.
Though it was uncertain as to when she would merge her party with the Congress, the party leadership indicated on Monday that she would attend the Congress rally in Hyderabad on September 17.
The party high command has decided to hold its Congress Working Committee meeting in Hyderabad on September 16, followed by an extended CWC meeting on September 17. Later, there would be huge rally at Hyderabad.
Congress general secretary K C Vengopal said, "Sharmila ji met Congress parliamentary party chief Sonia Gandhi and (former AICC chief) Rahul Gandhi. It was a very cordial meeting, very good meeting that I think she herself explained to the media. Rest of the things you wait and see."
Apparently, the high command asked Sharmila to be present at the meeting.
“It will send signals for her party’s merger with the Congress. She might hold a separate press conference to announce the formal merger,” Sources said.
