With just two days left for the launch of the new political outfit – YSR Telangana party to be launched by Y S Sharmila, daughter of former chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, the talk in the political circles is how much influence it will have on the electorate of Telangana.
According to the reports in a section of social media, Sharmila has commissioned a survey by a private agency called National Political Consultancy on the prospects of her party in the next assembly elections to be held in 2023.
The reports said the survey revealed that YSR Telangana party of Sharmila would have influence in at least 72 assembly constituencies out of 119 in Telangana, though it is not clear yet as to how many seats the party would win.
According to the survey, YSR image still holds sway on the electorate in these 72 assembly constituencies and they would decide the fate of political parties in the next elections.
“If Sharmila can create confidence among the voters that she is the right match for KCR, she can win majority of these seats,” the survey said.
Perhaps this is the reason why even newly-appointed Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president A Revanth Reddy has also started invoking the name of late YSR in his latest talk.
He described YSR as a god and warned that if anybody spoke ill of the late CM, he would slash their tongues.
So, Revanth and Sharmila appear to be vying with each other in owning up the legacy of YSR in Telangana. It remains to be seen which way YSR admirers would turn – towards Revanth or Sharmila.
That will decide the fate of the two leaders!
