YSR Telangana Party president Y S Sharmila, who had been reluctant to take up the offer made by Congress high command to take charge of the party affairs in Andhra Pradesh, is most likely to accept the offer at last.
According to party sources, Sharmila has realised that she has no role to play in Telangana with PCC chief A Revanth Reddy taking over as the chief minister and therefore, she has no option but to shift her base to Andhra for her political survival.
Sources said she reportedly accepted the latest proposal put forth by the high command once again to merge her party with the Congress and take over as the president of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee.
The party reportedly assured to nominate Sharmila to Rajya Sabha from Karnataka, before entrusting the responsibilities of Andhra Pradesh Congress.
So, for all practical purposes, she will be locking horns with her own brother – YSR Congress party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
As part of the strategy, Sharmila has been given the responsibility of organising two big rallies of the Congress in Andhra Pradesh.
One at Visakhapatnam, where Priyanka Gandhi would address a huge rally in support of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant workers with the slogan of “Visakha Ukku-Andhrula Hakku.”
The second rally Sharmila will be supervising is that of Rahul Gandhi at Amaravati in support of the capital city and also special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
“She is expected to play active role in the Congress party hereafter. She will also be entrusted with the responsibility of being a star campaigner in the coming assembly elections,” sources added.
