Bharatiya Janata Party national president Amit Shah, who was on a one-day visit to Hyderabad to gear up the party workers in Telangana for the next elections, is learnt to have virtually thrown up his hands.
After a detailed interaction with the party leaders and cadre, Shah felt that the Telangana BJP is virtually in a shambles and it is no match for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi or for that matter the Congress party.
The senior party leaders are working in different ways for their own personal interests and there is no comprehensive action plan for the party to win the next elections.
Several party leaders have reportedly complained to Shah that there was no clarity on how to tackle the TRS in the state. They pointed out that the national leadership including Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been giving a lot of prominence to TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao.
The Central ministers, who come to the state, lavish praises on KCR and his government, while Modi readily gives appointment to KCR and his son K T Rama Rao.
“This has created a lot of confusion among us. It has given rise to the impression among the people that the BJP might be treating the TRS as a friendly party to keep the Congress at bay. This has tied up our hands,” a senior BJP leader told Shah.
Shah, however, clarified that the BJP had no understanding with the TRS overtly or covertly.
“The comments of central ministers and meeting of KCR with Modi are routine administrative issues and have no political significance. Our objective is to capture power in Telangana by 2019 and the party will have to work out a strategy for it,” Shah told them.
Shah felt that the state BJP leadership is not battle ready, as there are not enough leaders worth mentioning to put up a fight with the TRS.
He pulled up the state party leaders for not following the guidelines issued by the national party in strengthening of the organisation.
He asked the party leadership to complete formation of booth-level committees by August 15 and cover all the constituencies and villages before the deadline.
