The striking Secretariat employees belonging to Seemandhra region voiced their opposition against bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh by launching a “maha dharna” at Jantar Mantar in the national capital on Friday.
The employees, including a large number of women, sporting caps with the slogan “Jai Samaikyandhra” marched in a rally from AP Bhavan to Jantar Mantar.
State Minister Shailajanath and Government Whip Rudraraju too participated in the rally and marched along with the striking employees and raised slogans in support of a united state.
Honorary president of YSR Congress Party, Y S Vijayalakshmi, along with her party leaders extended support to the striking employees by taking part in the dharna.
Addressing the gathering she lambasted the Congress leadership of creating a wedge between the Telugu people with its decision to bifurcate the state.
Without taking the consent of the people how such a decision was taken, she asked.
Holding the Congress solely responsible for the prevailing unrest and uncertainty, Vijayalakshmi observed that with its decision to bifurcate the state the party has caused immense heartburn among the people and also put to them to innumerable sufferings. Division of the state was not acceptable to the people at large.
She observed and declared that YSR Congress Party would stand by the people in their struggle till the end to ensure that the state remained united.
