The stage is set for disciplinary action against six Seemandhra Congress MPs who took an unprecedented step of giving notice for no-confidence motion against the UPA government.
This was confirmed by the AICC spokesman PC Chacko in Delhi on Wednesday. He indicated that disciplinary action would be taken against the MPs as they have violated party discipline.
Chacko also said the no-confidence motion would be defeated. No party will give its support to the no-trust motion as nobody wants elections at this juncture, the Congress leader said.
However, one of the MPs GV Harsha Kumar has clarified that they are not fighting against the party as such, but they are protesting against the stand of the party on state bifurcation.
Harsha Kumar also contended that the party cannot take “selective action”.
He said that party MPs from Telangana region – Manda Jagannath, G. Vivekananda and Ponnam Prabahkar – have also violated party discipline but no action has been taken on them so far.
Earlier, the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde had issued a veiled warning to the six Congress MPs to desist from going ahead with the no-confidence motion on Telangana Bill.
“They all are from a disciplined party. If there is any such indiscipline, the party will take action,” he had said.
The Congress MPs who gave the notice for no-confidence motion are: Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, Sabbam Hari, Undavelli Arun Kumar, A Sai Prathap, Lagadapati Rajagopal and GV Harsha Kumar.
Four Telugu Desam Party MPs and three YSR Congress Party MPs had also given separate notices to the Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar for moving a no- trust motion against the government.
It is said that the Seemandhra Congress MPs are itching for a showdown with the party high command and force it to take action against them so that they can project themselves as champions of the Samaikyandhra cause.
