With the formation of Telangana state becoming imminent, the race has begun among the Telangana Congress leaders for the coveted post of Chief Minister.
The veteran leader and Union Science and Technology Minister S Jaipal Reddy, who maintained a low profile even at the height of the statehood movement and did not utter a word, is now playing an active role.
Suddenly, he has realized the importance of leading the Telangana team and hogging the media limelight.
The dalit leader and Malkajgiri MP Sarve Satanarayana, who had refused to resign for the Telangana cause and preferred to enjoy the power and position, has jumped into the race for CM’s post.
“How can decline if our party president Sonia Gandhi offers me the post?” he asked.
Clearly, he has thrown the hat in the ring. Being a Dalit, Sarve Satyanarayana thinks he has an edge.
“By January 2014, two states will be formed and we will have two PCCs for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh,” he said.
Asked whether he was in the race for Telangana CM post, he said he would do whatever his party president asked him to do. As the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K Chandrasekhar Rao had promised to make a dalit leader the first Chief Minister of Telangana, the Congress might propose Dalit leader’s name for the post.
The Malkajgiri MP feels he has a good chance to bag the post.
