YSR Congress party general secretary and Rajya Sabha member V Vijay Sai Reddy met senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday evening, raising many an eyebrow in the political circles.
“Today, 1 August 2024, I met the Hon’ble Home Minister Shri @AmitShah Ji at his office in the Parliament Building. We discussed various issues related to public interest. Grateful to him that he took out time of his busy schedule and listened to me. #PublicInterest #AmitShah” Sai Reddy tweeted on X.
According to sources, this is the second time that Sai Reddy had met Amit Shah in the last one week. Though he said he had discussed various issues related to public interest, it made one surprised what public issues he might have discussed with the top BJP leader.
The meeting assumes significance in the wake of reports that the YSRCP was inclining towards the opposition INDIA bloc and planning to take anti-BJP stand at the national level.
YSRCP president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy invited several INDIA bloc leaders to his dharna in the national capital a few days ago to protest against the alleged violence against party activities in Andhra Pradesh. Except Congress, many INDIA bloc leaders attended his dharna and extended solidarity with him.
Even Sai Reddy made statements in support of INDIA bloc and demanded that the deputy speaker post in Lok Sabha should be given to the opposition.
Against this backdrop, Sai Reddy’s meeting Shah and praising him in his tweet surprised everybody. There were reports earlier that Sai Reddy might dump the YSRCP and join the BJP sooner or later.
Maybe, the meeting with Shah might be part of his efforts to jump the fence and join the saffron brigade, sources said.
