Mumbai: At times, the political parties cry foul about funds in the strangest manner. Apparently, the party had collected funds prior to the elections in Maharashtra and put all the money at a safe place.
It is said that the party had stashed loads of money running into crores in an apartment in Mumbai’s Prabhadevi locality. But it was later found that Rs 10 crores were stolen from the money stashed there.
Now, the party claims that it could not give money to all contestants due to this ‘loss’.
Of all the candidates, only 137 candidates got the money from the party and this left others worried. That’s when the story of theft came out.
But the party leaders say they could not complain to the police and the police too could not start the enquiry as no complaint has been lodged with them.
It is a norm for political parties to distribute money prior to the elections. But they were forced to remain silent due to President’s Rule in the state.
