Firebrand YSR Congress party MLA from Nagari R K Roja might not have succeeded in entering the Assembly on Friday thanks to the high handed behaviour of the ruling Telugu Desam Party, but it was definitely her day and she clearly gained an upper hand over Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
By deliberately stalling her entry into the Assembly, Naidu virtually degraded his stature to that of Roja, who is just an MLA.
The entire drama was viewed by the media as Naidu versus Roja. Heavens would not have fallen had Roja been allowed into the Assembly, since she had the court order in her favour.
In any case, the government had moved the division bench of the High Court and necessary action could have been taken depending on the court order. In the meantime, the Ethics Committee would any way submit its report and action could have been taken against Roja based on that.
However, by not allowing Roja to enter the House, the ruling TDP has created an impression that Naidu was scared of facing her. And the YSR Congress party legislators led by Y S Jaganmohan Reddy capitalised on this and moved the Governor against Naidu and also filed a contempt case against him for not honouring the court orders.
There were several ways to tackle the loud-mouth Roja. She would anyway lose her tongue and make unsavoury comments against Naidu and that would have given him a chance to see that she is suspended again. But with his stubborn stand against Roja, Naidu lost a golden opportunity!
