Rewarding the non-performers! Not so smart, is it?

Both the BJP at the Center headed by Modi and its ally, the TDP headed by Chandrababu Naidu constantly chant the ‘mantra’ of development and smart and good governance.

Interestingly, some of the promises made and decisions taken by them after coming to power have been anything but sensible in terms of good governance. They actually reward the non-performers and tax the law abiding citizens.

Consider Naidu’s loan waiver scheme for farmers. While the farmer who pays his bills regularly finds nothing at the end of the day apart from a clan conscience, the rest of them who default on their loans for various reasons end up getting their loans waived.

What message does it send to the honest farmer? His tax money and payments are being used to allow the non-performing farmers to get away Scott-free.

And then consider the NDA’s decision to regularize the slums in Delhi. These slums are places where people have illegally encroached on and construct various shanties and houses for themselves. They run into quite a huge number as well which means a sizeable vote bank.

What does the government do? It makes their illegal occupancy legal and wins their votes. So, the poor guy who spends his lifetime savings for building a small house for himself and his family is left stunned.

What is the benefit of having taken a loan and paid all those draining EMI’s over the ears when that money is just given away to give squatters a legal status? Ideology is different from reality say the politicians in private! But make no mistake about it.

The only person who can truly usher in change anywhere is a person who has the guts to implement his ideology. Until then, it doesn’t matter what kinds of Parties we have at the Center or State.
