If the rumours doing rounds in the social media circles are to be believed, the Congress high command is likely to project firebrand former Union minister Renuka Chowdary as the chief ministerial candidate of the party for Telangana.
According to the reports, Renuka rushed to New Delhi on Wednesday evening following a call from the Congress high command. This has kicked up a lot of rumours within the party and the media.
Apparently, the Congress wants to project Renuka as the first woman chief ministerial candidate of Telangana, which is believed to be a master stroke by the party to win the womenfolk and also give a fresh look to the party campaign.
The development comes in the wake of the passage of the women’s reservation bill in Parliament and the BJP is planning to take advantage of it to garner women’s votes.
If the Congress can highlight Renuka’s candidature, it will be a big counter not only to the BJP, but also to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, where women candidates have least priority.
Out of 115 seats for which BRS president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced, there are only four women candidates.
So far, there has been no woman chief minister in the Telugu states – both in combined Andhra Pradesh state or the separate states of Telangana and AP.
If the Congress can highlight this issue, it will definitely fetch huge mileage to the party, sources said.
However, it will also be a big setback to leaders like PCC chief A Revanth Reddy or seniors like Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, who are aspiring to become the chief minister of Telangana, if Congress comes to power.
Let us see whether it is just a rumour or if there is any fact in the speculations.
