The competition between Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has intensified, with both leaders pushing their ambitious urban projects—Naidu’s "Amaravathi" and Revanth’s newly proposed "Fourth City."
When N. Chandrababu Naidu resumed his role as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in June, there was speculation that investors might shift their focus from Hyderabad to his long-cherished dream capital, Amaravathi.
This project, envisioned as a cutting-edge urban hub, had been a cornerstone of Naidu’s agenda for years, positioning it as the future heart of Andhra Pradesh.
However, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, once Naidu’s protégé in the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), is emerging as a formidable competitor with his own bold vision for Hyderabad’s future.
Revanth’s "Fourth City" project aims to counterbalance Naidu's Amaravathi and establish Telangana as the preferred investment destination.
Revanth plans to develop a new city along the Srisailam Highway, spanning over 15,000 acres in Mucherla, Rangareddy district.
This area was previously designated by the former BRS government for a Pharma City project, which Revanth scrapped due to environmental concerns.
Instead, he proposes a more sustainable and eco-friendly "Fourth City," focusing on education, healthcare, tourism, sports, manufacturing, and IT/ITeS hubs.
To support his initiative, Revanth recently completed an 11-day international tour across the United States and South Korea from August 3 to 13.
During the tour, he signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth over ₹30,000 crore, promoting the "Fourth City" as an ideal investment hub and branding Telangana as the "Future State."
His diplomatic efforts are beginning to yield results, with several international investors now considering Telangana over Andhra Pradesh.
In a strategic meeting in Delhi today, Revanth met with Foxconn Chairman Young Liu and pitched the "Fourth City" as a prime investment opportunity. Liu expressed interest and agreed to consider investing in the project.
Revanth’s proactive approach has overshadowed Naidu’s Amaravathi, which has struggled to attract similar high-profile investments recently.
While both projects are still in their early stages, Revanth’s rapid progress appears to be drawing more attention from investors, potentially allowing him to outpace his former mentor’s efforts.
For now, Revanth’s "Fourth City" seems to be leading in the race against Chandrababu Naidu’s Amaravathi.
