Industrialist-turned-politician K Raghu Ramakrishna Raju, who created sensation of sorts by moving a petition in the Supreme Court against the bifurcation of the State, has dumped the Samaikyandhra cause to secure his political future.
Raju, who was till recently in the YSR Congress party, filed the petition in the Supreme Court against bifurcation in tune with the party policy.
However, he quit the party and joined the BJP on Friday, despite the fact that the latter was supporting the Telangana cause. And he declared that he was not against bifurcation of the State.
Raju told media that he had decided to join the BJP because of Gujarat Chief Minister and party’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. “Though I am with BJP now, the petition filed in the Supreme Court would not be withdrawn as the petition was not against bifurcation of the State. But it was against the way the process of bifurcation was being carried by the Centre”, he said.
Kishan Reddy told media in the presence of Raju that the party was committed for bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. He also stated that Telangana Bill must be cleared in Parliament this time. The party recommended some amendments to the bill, Reddy said.
