Rajasekhar skips Jagan meet, to jump into TDP?

Senior YSR Congress party leader from Chilakaluripet in Palnadu district and member of state legislative council Marri Rajasekhar seems to have decided to call it quits to the party and defect to the ruling Telugu Desam Party for better opportunities.

It was evident from his conspicuous absence at the crucial meeting convened by YSRCP chief and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy with leaders from the united Guntur district at Tadepalli camp office on Tuesday.

Several leaders from Guntur, Palnadu and Bapatla districts including former ministers Ambati Rambabu, Merugu Nagarjuna, and Vidadala Rajini, along with Rajya Sabha MP Ayodhya Ramireddy, former MLAs Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy, Kasu Mahesh Reddy, and Bolla Brahma Naidu.

Several constituency coordinators, MPPs, ZPTCs, and municipal chairpersons were also present.

However, Marri Rajasekhar, despite being an important leader of the party, stayed away from the high-profile meeting, leading to the speculation that he is on the verge of quitting YSRCP.

Sources said Rajasekhar has been keeping away from the party activities for quite some time, particularly since former minister Vidadala Rajini was appointed as the in-charge of Chilakaluripet.

In the 2024 elections, Rajini was sent to Guntur (West) but still Rajasekhar was not given the ticket. And after the party’s loss in the elections, Rajini was once again reinstated as Chilakaluripet in-charge, much to his chagrin.

Apparently, Rajasekhar has been feeling sidelined, especially as the party leadership did not consult him before reappointing Rajini, despite his position as an MLC. His followers believe he has not received due recognition for his contributions to the party.

He was given an MLC post before the last elections, but a previously promised ministerial position never materialized.

Following the Tuesday’s meeting, it was evident that Rajasekhar is set to switch to TDP, with a formal exit from YSRCP expected by the end of this month.
