AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s tour in Telangana is more of a political strategy, rather than really fighting for the cause of farmers.
This was stated by Telangana agriculture minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy. He flayed the Congress vice-president for embarking on a political tour in Telangana, which will prove futile.
He sought to know what the previous Congress-led UPA Government had done for the cause of the farmers across the country.
“Rahul Gandhi should tell us what the previous Congress government did for the benefit of farmers in distress”, he demanded.
The minister has suggested to the Congress vice-president to raise his voice strongly in the Lok Sabha to force the government to come to the rescue of the farmers.
The TRS government was doing everything for the farmers, who suffered losses due to the recent unseasonal rains, he maintained.
He also claimed that the State government had passed a resolution to offer crop insurance by considering each farmer as a unit.
Some 65,000 acres of farm lands were damaged due to the untimely rains, he said, adding they would ask the Centre to extend adequate compensation to the ailing farmers.
