Race Hots Up For New Capital

Even as the Centre is getting ready to appoint a high-level committee to look into the location of new capital for residuary AP state, political leaders began lobbying for their respective areas.

Union Minister of State for Railways Kotla Jayasurya Prakash Reddy on Monday informed that an agitation would be launched soon demanding that the Centre make Kurnool as new capital of residual Andhra Pradesh.

On the other hand, former Rajya Sabha member Yalamanchili Shivaji on Monday felt that Vijayawada-Guntur area was most suitable place for new capital of residual Andhra Pradesh State.

Shivaji said there is a lot of open space and buildings in the Nagarjuna University at Mangalagiri located between Vijayawada and Guntur and it will be suitable for locating Secretariat and Assembly building for residual Andhra Pradesh. Nagarjuna University could be shifted to Ongole PG College, he added.

The area between Vijayawada and Guntur should be declared as non-industrial zone, he demanded.
