The five MPs belonging to YSR Congress party resigned from their seats in a bid to mount pressure on the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government at the Centre.
In a way, it is an embarrassment to the BJP. But surprisingly, senior BJP leader and former Union minister Daggubati Purandeshwari on Tuesday defended the resignations of the YSRC MPs.
Reacting to the allegations of the Telugu Desam Party leaders that the resignations were just a drama, she said the YSRC MPs had shown their commitment to the cause of the state by quitting their posts.
“How can the TDP leaders call the resignations a drama? It is not proper to describe a genuine political move as a drama.
If the YSRC MPs’ resignations were a drama, what do you call the defection of 23 YSRC MLAs into the TDP? Have you not enacted a drama by admitting them into the TDP? Why didn’t you ask them to resign from the YSRC to join the TDP?” she asked.
Purandeshwari also found fault with TDP president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu to throw blame on the BJP for not releasing funds for Polavaram.
“Whatever progress that has been achieved so far is only because of the Centre. Without releasing funds, how can the project works be completed till now?” she asked.
She said Naidu cannot speak truth and BJP cannot lie.
“Union minister Nitish Gadkari clearly said the completion of Polavaram project by next summer would be the responsibility of the Centre,” she asserted.
