Though Seemandhra Congress leaders, desperate to stall the Telangana state formation, are pinning hopes on President Pranab Mukherjee to come to their rescue, it is doubtful whether the veteran leader can be of any help at this stage.
The political observers say that the bifurcation process has reached a stage where even the President cannot stop it.
All along, the Seemandhra lobby has been arguing that Pranab, known for his straightforward ways and boldness, could raise objections over the manner in which the UPA government has been going ahead with the division process.
He might insist on following the constitutional conventions which require a resolution to be passed by the Assembly for creation of a new state.
The Union Ministers, MPs and other elected representatives from Seemandhra have already petitioned to the President, seeking his intervention in halting the bifurcation process.
However, it is said that the Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who has invested her personal stakes in realizing the Telangana statehood dream, has been successful in convincing the President about the need to complete the process without any constitutional hitches.
She is believed to have told the President that her government was totally committed to carving out Telangana state at any cost.
Even if Pranab is personally opposed to the idea of dividing Andhra Pradesh, it may not be possible for him to stall the process at this stage.
The UPA government is that a bill on Telangana should be introduced in the winter session of the Parliament, commencing on December 5.
It wants to send across a powerful symbolic message to the people of Telangana by getting the Telangana Bill passed by the Lok Sabha on December 9, coinciding with the birthday of Sonia Gandhi.
