Police, New Bone Of Contention Between Two States

Hyderabad has once again become a contentious issue between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The Centre has suggested that a common board be constituted for both the states, which is being vehemently opposed by the Telangana government.

Recently, AP Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu had written a letter to Prime Minister Modi requesting that all the powers relating to the police be vested with the Governor.

Babu had indicated in the letter that transfer of police officials and appointments should be made commonly by both the states. Naturally, Telangana CM KCR is opposing such proposal.

The Telangana government is insisting that AP should use Hyderabad as a temporary base for governance till their new capital is developed and that it should not have any say in the affairs of Hyderabad.

It is being said that the Telangana TRS MPs intend to stage a dharna in the Parliament opposing such a move by the Centre. Meanwhile, Chandra Babu had also requested the Centre to give equal powers to both the states to safeguard the buildings in Hyderabad, which is the common capital for the coming 10 years.

It remains to be seen where this is going to lead.
