Prime Minister's office is said to have questioned Andhra Pradesh government over the ostentatious expenditure for ground-breaking ceremony.
So, PMO is said to have called up the CM's office and enquired after the expenses being made and they also wondered as to why the Andhra Pradesh government was spending so much when a ceremony was already held in the past.
It is said that the PMO also took offence to the fact that Chandra Babu had invited the heads of Japan and Singapore without following protocol.
Since such invites are supposed to be sent through external affairs ministry, talk is that the prime ministers of Japan and Singapore are staying away from the event. Apparently, they also threatened that the Prime Minister might consider cancelling his trip if expenses are not controlled.
Following this, Chandra Babu held a meeting with his cabinet colleagues and cut costs. Finally, it was decided that the total cost should be under Rs 10 crores. However, according to a report in another newspaper, the cost could be up to Rs 25 crores.
Meanwhile, the opposition is spreading rumours that the final expenditure will be around Rs 400 crores.
