Parties jostle to get Pawan on board

Hyderabad: With reports of his possible entry into politics making news, actor Pawan Kalyan has reportedly been approached by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Lok Satta Party (LSP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to contest in the coming polls.

Speculation is rife that Pawan Kalyan is even considering jumping into the electoral fray as an independent candidate.

Sources said the Congress has, however, not shown any interest in the Tollywood actor. This despite the actor’s elder brother Chiranjeevi being a Union minister after merging his Praja Rajya Party (PRP) with the Congress.

News trickled in on Wednesday that the actor did not wish to hold his promised press meet to elaborate on his political plans in the second week of March.

A well-known director, Jayanth C Paranji, on Wednesday had a word of advice for Pawan Kalyan.“If you want to clean the system, do it from outside,” he said, adding that politics is not for ‘simple guys’. Curiously, Pawan Kalyan has not got the kind of encouragement he needed from his fans on his supposed plans to don the avatar of a politician.

Sources said Pawan Kalyan’s nurtures a grudge against his brother for merging the PRP with the Congress. He reportedly felt ‘cheated’ because as president of the ‘Yuvarajyam’, the youth wing of PRP, Kalyan had been vociferous in his criticism of the Congress in the 2009 elections. There has also been friction between the brothers on other issues as well.

Sources said Pawan Kalyan had married his live-in partner Renu Desai only to save Chiranjeevi from embarrassment and unsavory remarks during the 2009 elections.

Intriguingly, political parties are trying to woo Pawan Kalyan just so that they can get the benefit of the ‘anti-Chiranjeevi’ voters who think they have been let down by the megastar on the issue of state bifurcation or even merging PRP with the Congress.

Floating a political party at this juncture may become a herculean task for the actor, what with elections already announced.

The 42-year-old actor debuted with the film “Akkada Ammayi Ekkada Abbayi” in 1996 and has done nearly 20 films –including some colossal flops and blockbusters.Pawan Kalyan had floated a ‘Common Man’s Protection Force’ to help people in the past but the idea did not take off.
