Dedicating the Statue of Unity of Sardar Vallabhai Patel to the nation, Narendra Modi said that had it not been for Sardar, Indians today would have needed a visa to visit Hyderabad.
Indeed, it was Sardar Patel who liberated Telangana from the Nizam rule and integrated it with the Indian Union.
Ironically though, Telangana doesn’t celebrate this freedom from the Nizam rule. They are happier with denigrating the Andhras and cherishing the day when they became a separate State. This is nothing but minority appeasement of the highest order.
When TRS MP Kavitha said that Telangana was a happy independent nation along with Kashmir until annexed to the Indian Union, what does it mean? When TRS MP Vinod during the T-agitation said, “We are not Indians,” what was it supposed to mean?
Despite an understanding with the BJP today, KCR is very much at the top of the list when it comes to minority appeasement. Nothing wrong in that!
But when it reaches a point where one turns a blind eye to murder because of electoral compulsions, it is downright reprehensible.
Satyanarayana Sharma, a priest of Sai Baba temple, was seriously injured after he was assaulted by the Imam of a nearby mosque in Pocchamma Maidan area in Warangal on October 26.
The incident occurred after an argument over playing bhajans (devotional songs) over the temple loudspeaker early in the morning, as the Imam had objected to it. The Imam assaulted the priest who was badly injured and admitted to a hospital.
Later, he was shifted to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad, where he passed away due to internal bleeding.
Not a single statement from the TRS condemning the attack. Why? It’s election time and the fear that it might alienate the Muslims. It isn’t even clear whether the perpetrator has been taken into custody.
Various Brahmin Associations have been making demands for the culprit to be hanged and making representations to local leaders. This is an exercise in vain. They should realise that in this day and age, no one would come to their assistance in a time of need.
Hundreds of devotees visit that Sai Baba Temple. What is their response? They condemned the attack, a few of them attended the priest’s funeral and that’s that! They’ll go back to the temple every day again. They have their own lives to get on with.
So, it’s about time that the noble Brahmins unwrap their cloak of gentleness and fend for themselves. No other caste, community or political party will look out for them.
They should fend for themselves and take a cue from their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in this aspect. Else, they will soon go the way of the Kashmiri Pandits.
When one of their own is killed and all they can do is raise a few slogans and make representations, it’s a sorry state of affairs indeed.
