Call it a political necessity or a prestigious issue, political parties these days prefer to have their own media houses to propagate their ideology, philosophy and programmes, since they are not able to reach out to the people through other media houses effectively.
In Andhra Pradesh, the Opposition party YSR Congress has its own media house Sakshi, while the TDP has the backing of major media houses like Eenadu and Andhra Jyothy though it does not have its own media.
There are reports that TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu is also contemplating launching a Telugu newspaper and channel soon.
In Telangana, Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao already has a Telugu newspaper Namasthe Telangana and television channel T News and his English daily Telangana Today is going to hit the stands soon.
The latest talk is that Telangana Joint Action Committee headed by retired professor M Kodandaram is also contemplating to launch its own media. Since it does not have big resources, it is going to start with a weekly magazine and a digital newspaper.
“We are also contemplating a television channel, but not immediately,” Kodandaram said.
The TJAC chairman, who has been under attack from the pro-KCR media and social media groups for launching a tirade against the TRS government, has apparently realised that he cannot mobilise the public opinion unless he has his own media. That’s the tragedy!
